I like to dress for comfort. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t look good while doing it. Sometimes, you can just make small changes to an outfit or your appearance to make you look a little bit more put together. Perfect for lazy people! 🙂 Here are some tips & tricks to always looking polished and put together.

TIP #1: Make sure that your clothes aren’t wrinkled.

Wrinkled clothes will make anyone look disheveled and sloppy. Once you’re done with a load of laundry, hang or fold them immediately. Otherwise, you’ll be burdened with having to iron them before walking out the house! If you’re a person who’s always tight on time, try buying clothing in wrinkle-resistant fabrics like cotton blends, polyester, etc. Another tip: if you take your showers in the morning, hang your wrinkled clothes in the bathroom. The steam from your shower will make them disappear!

TIP #2: Always have well-groomed hair.

People don’t realize this, but hair plays a huge part in your overall appearance. Your outfit could be curated by the gods but if your hair is not lookin’ fleeky, neither will you. Whenever I’m having a bad hair day, I like to just throw it up in a topknot. Or, if I’m feeling REALLY lazy, I’ll just throw a hat on!

TIP #3: “Less is more”

When it comes to jewelry, less is definitely more. Dainty, timeless pieces look more put-together and classy than loud, obnoxious statement pieces. I highly recommend investing in some everyday jewelry pieces that you can wear. This way, you’ll never have to take your jewelry off and don’t have to worry much about accessorizing! I personally wear my mom’s old engagement band and my 14k gold name plate necklace. It’s also recommended to go for 14 karat gold when purchasing jewelry that you’re going to wear everyday because it’s not as malleable as 18k or 24k (magic) is.

TIP #4: Monochromatic Outfits

Monochromatic outfits, or outfits that feature items that are all the same color, just look more intentional. They look like you put a lot of thought into your outfit when in reality, you probably just glanced at your closet and grabbed random pieces that were the same color.

TIP #5: Only buy pieces that fit you well, or get them tailored!

The entire look of an outfit can change just by the fit of the clothing. Make sure you’re buying clothes that fit! Even if you’re going for an ‘oversized’ look, you still have to make sure that they fit in all the right places. Otherwise, you’ll drown in your own clothes.

TIP #6: Never wear anything that you’re not comfortable in.

This tip will mean different things to different people. Sometimes, feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing just means changing your mindset. Just own the outfit that you have on your body. Other times, feeling comfortable just means taking a mental note of clothing styles that you’re not comfortable in…then avoiding them. Whatever works for you, in your situation.

TIP #7: Heeled booties can ‘elevate’ any outfit. No pun intended.

Put on any casual outfit, then wear tennis shoes. Ok. Now, switch out those tennis shoes for heeled booties. Not only does it change the look of the outfit, but it also changes your attitude while you’re wearing the outfit. See, folks? Small changes can make a big difference.

TIP #8: Wear sunglasses to conceal the death that you feel inside.

Didn’t get enough sleep last night? Eyes puffy? Dark circles? Eyebrows not done? Had one too many drinks? Throw on a pair of classic oversized sunglasses. Usually to look more alive, I apply concealer under my eyes. But at the height of laziness, sunglasses do the trick just fine.

TIP #9: Great jacket = great outfit

You can make a great outfit just wearing jeans, a (well-fitted) t-shirt, and a great jacket. The type of jacket is totally up to you. Moto jackets, bombers, denim jackets, sukajans, peacoats, trenches, you name it.

TIP #10: Have nice, manicured nails at all time.

There is nothing worse than slaying in a good outfit, feeling confident, stuntin’ on these h****…then someone looks at your crusty toenails and broken acrylics. There’s a fix for that. Just make sure that your nails are always looking neat and manicured. You don’t even need to have a polish color or acrylics. Just make sure that they’re trimmed, shaped, and without hang nails! Do a quick YouTube search to learn how to give yourself a manicure to save some extra $$$!
